Anyone know any good Jazz musicians...something of a likeness to Miles Davis?

And theres also this one song that i love by miles davis that was played on the Cosby Show....i think its called in a sentimental mood...not sure...please correct me....and what are some other good songs by Miles Davis....?

John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Duke Ellington did interpret 鈥淚n a Sentimental Mood鈥?together. You can find it on the CD #2 of the box set 鈥淒uke Ellington - 1926 - 1949 鈥?Masterpieces (4 CDs).鈥?

For, 鈥淚n a Sentimental Mood鈥?was composed in 1935 by Duke Ellington, and he recorded it with his orchestra the same year, actually.

But this song has been performed by many other artists including Phyllis Hyman, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Art Tatum, Django Reinhardt, Lucky Thompson, Jay McShann, Benny Goodman, Pedro Rossi, Billy Joel, Nancy Wilson, and Sonny Rollins, and even by Glenn Miller.

However, Miles Davis did record this song alone on 78rpm on october 6, 1946 at Radio Recorders Studio, Hollywood.
It was a 2:40 mn song and it seems to be the only one Miles David interpretation of "In a Sentimental Mood" at this time (except the one on the aforesaid Duke Ellington box set). This old record has been later made commercially available on 10鈥?and 12鈥?LPs (EmArcy 36010 and Savoy SJL-1127, respectively); and on a CD (Jaz Factory JFCD 22821).

Miles Davis was a great musician. Some of my favorite tunes are "So What" and "Human Nature" (Michael Jackson). "Kind of Blue" was a CD that was noted as "classic" Miles Davis. I think you can get that at Best Buy for about $9.00. Maybe cheaper on Amazon.com.

I hear the song "Sentimental Mood" on The Cosby Show is a favorite. I have seen blogs with people commenting on that and many other songs that were on the show. I think there is a CD with many jazz songs complied on a CD, "A House Full Of Love" I believe its called. There were many great jazz songs on that show :-)

I like these artist as well: George Duke, Ramsey Lewis, Lonnie Liston Smith, Wayman Tisdal, Art Porter, Boney James, Micheal Coberson and Marcus Miller. Check them out and let me know what you think.

Happy Listening!!!

Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers
they've got a myspace page so you can litsne to them now
check out the song "moanin'"

I suggest you to check out also these italian trumpet players: Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Flavio Boltro and Fabrizio Bosso, you will love them :)

Miles's discography is of such breadth that, as opposed to my blabbering about/suggesting what could be considered good songs of his, I suggest that you go to allmusic.com and read up on him/his work and see what strikes your fancy the most. that said, if you care for his post-"In a Silent Way" material, a current trumpeter that you might want to check out is Erik Truffaz...

I have this tune.
It is with John Coltrane and Duke Ellington.
Listed under Duke Ellington. I picked it up on Limewire.
Just so beautiful!
