Should I use my yamaha bflat student trumpet for high school bands, or should I get a proffesional trumpet? |
I am playing jazz band, concert band, and marching band If it's possible for you to get a proffesional trumpet, then definitely get one for jazz and concert band. You probably don't want to use a nice instrument for marching band though, it would add a lot of wear and tear to it. Use your student model for that. You should be perfectly fine using that horn for high school. I would not worry about upgrading your horn unless: It really isnt necessary to buy a professional horn unless you play a lot outside of school or audition a lot for prestigious bands. Do NOT use a professional horn for marching band, it will be ruined, voice of experience. If you are considering a pro-horn, i would recommend a Conn Connstellation, it is, in my opinion, better than a Vintage One or Strad for a lesser price. If you plan on majoring in music, look into a Schilke, they are very expensive but are they are the finest custom trumpets in the world. I'm a serious alto sax player, so I have my own. But for school, I just use a school instrument because my saxophone is extremely expensive. So I'd say if you are planning to do anything outside of school then getting your own would be nice.. but that also means you have to pay to go get it fixed. Unless you know enough about it that you can fix it by yourself.. If you plan to continue music after highschool (either scholastically, professionally, or even just for fun) you will want a better trumpet eventually. You would most likely sound even better on a professional model trumpet like a Bach Stradivarius. The more responsive an instrument is, the more you can do with it musically. Many students upgrade to a Bach while they are in High School. If you are in a position to get one, then definitely do it. |
