older jazz was more authentic, recordings were longer, the passion was stronger, the magicians were definitely limited as as far as being treated fairly. they endured a whole lot which i think made them more creative, more passionate b/c they wanted to express themselves and they earned respect...
of course nowadays we take things and put our own twist on it. some artist still follow the influence of the older jazz cats, but now more genres and styles are being incorporated and history has to start someone where.
my fresh cap is not on right now..it's late. hope this helps. wikipedia Do you have an American Nation book?If so check out the Harlem Renaissance for look on the jazz then compare it to the new.
Or you could ask your parents or grandparents about it and base your answer off of that. The jazz age is when popoluar music AND jazz music were the same thing.
So in the jazz age the music reflected the current culture. New jazz falls into different zones but none of it is considered modern popular music. It is often reflective and trying to be like old jazz, or it is smooth and trying to be commercial but having only a small audience, or it is real jazz music played by artists that is continuing to extend the true art form, but still not popular music by any measure. the jazz age comes since the beggining of 1900 ... (more or less) and this age still at this time.
Music and everything's in changing, transformation ... aways. And through the years, the musicians have changed their styles of playing jazz.
The basically difference about the "old" and the "new" jazz is that the new jazz have some influences of rock, funk and others contemporary music. Sometimes we can call it "fusion".
But i believe that there's not old jazz.... the first way of play it isn't worst than the new way... but its just another way...
