Any Ella Fitzgerald fan out there?

I'm 19, grew up in the 90's so obviously I don't know about those jazz masterpieces from the 20's - 60's. But I heard 2 songs from Ella and I fell in love!
So could you tell me what great songs from Ella that you know, or maybe your favorites?
And which other artists are similar to her style of jazz?
I also love Incognito.
I don't live in the US,and here jazz is so not popular but I still try to find out more modern jazz musicians that still play/sing with similar style or at least do covers but it's really hard.
I found out about Loston Harris and I love what I heard but I cant find his CD anywhere here. I try to download his music but cant find it anywhere either. I'm not comfortable buying of the internet :(

So I guess you've got the idea what kinda artists I'd love to find out, old or new I dont care! :D
Make the list of the songs and artists,if it's not too much trouble.
Thanks in advance, true jazz lovers!! =>

O yea, I dont mind soul artists too!
Acoustic soul, neo-soul, brown eyed, blue eyed, wutevr name it! ^^
I love Erykah Badu & India Arie.

But please don't tell me to clink a link,
I wanna know YOUR favorites!

If you like Ella Fitzgerald, try:

Etta James. Try these songs:

"At Last"
"Baby What You Want Me To Do"
"Don't Lose Your Good Thing"
"Almost Persuaded"
"Ev'ry Body Somebody's Fool"
"Willow Weep For Me"
"Spoonful"
"I Wish Someone Would Care"
"Sookie Sookie"
"I Just Want to Make Love to You"
"God's Song (That's Why I Love Mankind)"
"Do I Make Myself Clear"

Nine Simone - a brilliant artist and a fiercely independent thinker. Her voice takes getting used to initially, but she is one of the greats. Try these songs by her:

"I Wish I Knew How"
"I Think It's Going to Rain Today"
"Lilac Wine"
"Nobody's Fault But Mine"
"Be My Husband"
"Do I Move You"
"Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out"
"Sinnerman"
"I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl"
"Mississippi Goddam"
"Ain't Got No"
"My Baby Just Cares for Me"
"I Put a Spell On You"
"I Loves You Porgy"
"Feeling Good"

HELLZ YEAH!!!

In addition to Ella, try:

Dakota Stanton -- Crazy He Calls Me, The Late Late Show

Sarah Vaughan -- 'Round Midnight

Peggy Lee -- Fever

Carmen McRae -- The Man I Love

Alberta Hunter -- Amtrak Blues (Album), I Got Myself a Working Man

For guitar work, try Los Lonely Boys, Fourplay, Larry Carlton, The Gypsy Kings.

For more of Ella, try some of the recordings she did with Duke Ellington's orchestra.

The slow version of "At Last".

Try the Ella & Joe Pass albums. Her voice is a bit shot as she was getting older, but that just makes it more human for me. (And Joe Pass is worth the cd price anyway!)

i am! her version of "Cheek To Cheek" was in The English Patient, one of my very favourite films, and i've been a fan ever since! : )

Yeah !!! Great....

"Don't mean a thing,
All You got to do is SWING !!!"

Great.. Love You...

Aaron Moses.

Ella was the greatest. My favorite Ella Fitzgerald albums are 30 by Ella a group of 30 songs Ella does in medley form that are great.
Ella Fitzgerald the Best of the Songbooks a Verve compilation of the great songbook albums Ella did for Norman Granz Verve records.
Daydream: Best of the Duke Ellington Songbook. Another great singer you may listen to would be Rosemary Clooney ,I mention her here because she also did a great album with Duke Ellington called Blue Rose. Rosemary Clooney also did many great Jazz cds on Concord records with various Jazz artists. You may also check out Nancy Wilson who will always be remembered for her classic song Guess Who I Saw Today. Nancy did a great Jazz album with Cannonball Adderley and another with George Shearing.
Dinah Washington another great singer to listen to.
Anita O'Day a truly great Jazz singer.
Chris Connor ,Jeri Southern,June Christy ,Julie London,Peggy Lee and Jo Stafford will all be of interest to you if you love the singing of Ella Fitzgerald. Also let me mention the great Mahalia Jackson whom you may never have heard about because she primarily sang Gospel music. However she also made one great song with Duke Ellington's orchestra , a song in a part of his Black,Brown and Beige suite .The song Mahalia sang was Come Sunday. She was just a fantastic singer regardless of genre and well worth the listening. AboutLoston Harris and purcaseing on the net: Loston has one cd on iTunes a very secure site to down load from. On the album he sings on four of the tracks and plays very good piano with a small group.

YES!!!
You should definitely get the CD "Ella and Louis Again." It's one of my favorites.

Also, you must listen to the Ray Brown Trio with Gene Harris, Ray Brown, and Jeff Hamilton and the Oscar Peterson Trio with Ray Brown and Herb Ellis. They both have a very distinctive sound which, in my opinion, epitomizes the meaning of jazz, and the people in both of these groups are some of the greatest rhythm section players ever.

These are my most favorite songs from Ella's numerous number of great songs- scat Good Enough To Keep (Flying Home), Gone With The Wind, Misty, The Lady Is A Tramp, Summertime, Angel Eyes, My Heart Belongs To Daddy, Lover Come Back To Me, I'm Beginning To See The Light, Too Darn Hot, A Tisket-A Tasket, Lorelei, Just One Of Those Things, The Man I Love, Ella, This Time It's For Real, Sophisticated Lady, & Mack The Knife- she did this in her Berlin concert. She forgot the lyrics, just went on improvising so well with her own words. I also like these great artists whom you like to check out- Eydie Gorme, Carmen McRae, Lena Horne, June Christy, Nancy Wilson, Dakota Staton, Sarah Vaughn, Dinah Shore. Happy listening.
