please post something that doesn't pertain to "rules" of harmonic progression (i.e. i-V, i-iv-V, i-VI-iv-V7 etc.) :) You can substitue any 7 chord for another 7 chord that shares its tritone.....example
C7 - C E G Bb = Gb7 - Gb Bb Db Fb(E) There's the minor 7, minor 9, minor 11.
Then there's there minor 7 b5 , minor 9 b5. Man I yell at piano players all the time about this. Why for the life of me would you want to play the changes as written let me show you some subs. Thier are rule in life, not in music.
Key: C-7
Subs:
Absus9
F#-7 B7 (ii/V7 off the tritone)
Emaj9
Esus9
C7+9
Bsus9
Amaj7/D
Say if your playing a minor blues. Everytime you comeback to the top play one of those subs. They dont fit do they? Its called being creative and playing outside the box. Anyone with a true appreciation of harmony knows the even dissonannce has a function. Use it to your advantage. |
