Which is your favourite jazz music?

Which is your favourite jazz music?

I really can't stand jazz.

Bix Beiderbecke. I can't get started.

My version is Bunny Berrigan.

Marian McPartland, Rosemary Clooney, and Ella Fitzgerald

miles davis- the birth of the cool. I hate all his coked up 70's fusion crap though. also a little known german group called KING ALCOHOL although I admit I like the name better than their music, its pretty out there stuff, but Im definately more of a mod/60's R&B/proto-punk/new wave collector.

I still love Acker Bilk and often listen to him on Saturday mornings whilst I am tidying up.

old jazz, there are so many singers to name... it would take up too much space ;)

Happy Apple. I like Humphrey Lyttleton as well.

Mingus, Sun ra, Medeski martin and wood, ornette coleman, the art ensymble of chicago, charlie hunter, plenty of others.

I like a lot of the 'greats' , Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington etc, along with modern stuff like Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker, Charlie Hunter, Will Ackerman.
Jazz is one form of music I often find simply by listening to an album on a certain record label, ECM, Windham Hill etc. I've found a few good albums that way.

big band jazz is amazing.
listen to songs like rhapsody in blue, in the mood, sing sing sing, and harlem nocturne.

listen to glenn miller, louis prima, dave brubeck, nicola frisardi, george gershwin, and other really good jazz bands.
if you like jazz, you'll like them. :]

Jan Garbacek and Rabih Abou Khalil .. wonderful also Keith Jarrett is cool

I love the entire spectrum of jazz, from Louis Armstrong Hot Fives and Hot Sevens, to the panoply of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Fletcher Henderson, to beboppers like Dizzy, Bird, Monk and Bud, and the hard bop from Miles to Getz to Coltrane. I'll even do some Ornette and Sun Ra for spice on occasion.

Thelonius Monk

I like jazz from bop to big band to fusion. I like all types of jazz music. I dig jazz. But my favorite would be jazz-funk (Herbie Hancock, Roy Ayers, Ronnie Laws and others)

P.S. kindly report the first two answers. If they don't like jazz, they shouldn't have answered in the first place.

Does it get any better than the Art Ensemble Of Chicago? I don't think so.

My own personal idea of great jazz happens from around 1945 to 1960 -- bop, cool, West Coast, things like that. But the Art Ensemble will send you way back to cats like King Oliver and Louis Armstrong, the Duke and the Count.

You could start maybe with Roscoe Mitchell's _Sound_, or AECO's _The Third Decade_, or anything by Muhal Richard Abrams. Pay attention, and you will end up in some surprising places.

does lou bega count? coz i really love that guy!

wow, there are so many jazz artists out there that are great! but my favourite would be stuff like: Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa and also the fusion guys like Dave Weckl. you'll notice that all these guys are drummers, thats cause I'm one too. ive got to get into other artists such as Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
Check these guys out:
Gene Krupa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9J5Zt2Ob...

Buddy Rich: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yds8i7-aT...

Dave Weckl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIvr1AyHS...

I love Norah Jones but I started my love for Jazz years ago with Sarah Vaughan - she changed my world and even the way I sing.

What got me into jazz was "Fusion". I am now a fan of most of the jazz subgenres. Favorite musicians include Larry Carlton, Crusaders, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and so many others.

Oscar Peterson.
Especially his finest hour cd.
Can't get enough of mumbles.....

Wynton Marsalis, Shaun Escoffery, Brand New Heavies and Sade

Welp. Im not as nostalgic as most of you guys I like the newer artist around like Kenny Garrett, Gary thomas, Allan Holdworth, John McLauglin, Wayne Krantz, Mark Turner, Nicholas Payton, Roy Hargrove, Matt Garrison, Tribal Tech, Stefon Harris, Bobby Hutchenson, Michel Camillo, Danillo Perez, David Sanchez, Miguel Zenon, Billy Harper (not so new or alive), Billy Pierce, Lonnie Plaxico, Joshua Redman....I could keep going but I think we need to support some of the newer or at least current artists whilst we still have them.

Oh yeah DONT REPORT the first 2 answers because thats the same as killing someone for a difference of opinion. They dont like jazz. So?

Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, Maynard Ferguson, Stan Kenton, and Buddy Rich...

I don't like jazz sorry.
