Is jazz as beneficial as classical music for studying or reading?

I've heard classical music turned will help with studies. I am not a large fan of classical music (although I am not ignorant of the skill involved). Will jazz (romantic jazz, light jazz) have the same effect as classical music? If more clarification is needed, please ask.

I think the short answer is no. What's called "jazz" today isn't conducive to studying, it demands too much attention and will probably be unsatisfying.

Put some Chopin nocturnes on and watch how your mind opens up!

Often classical sounds better if it is jazzed up a bit. It gets boring played the same way all the time.

Classical, I believe, is the most disciplined from start to finish. It teaches the overall structure of music with progressively greater intensity. The greater the structure, the higher the learning curve. Jazz is also a highly disciplined genre, but I believe within its disciplines is the opportunity for theoretical interjection and improvisation - a groove that grows out of creativity and well balanced theory. Both require alot of focus, stamina and perseverance. Jazz may be more relaxing to you. Hope this helps.
