Fictional books dealing with jazz?

I鈥檓 a High School English teacher and I have a student who is obsessed with Jazz music. He wants to read some books that would interest him. I can鈥檛 think of any fictional books dealing with the Jazz genre. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend James Baldwin's short story, "Sonny's Blues" and the jazz-tinged novels of Xam Wilson Cartier.

Fiction dealing with jazz can serve as a fascinating window into the American identity.

Good luck!

Does it have to be fiction? There is some great nonfiction in jazz--Jazz is full of great writers with colorful histories who wrote wonderful autobiographies. Louis Armstrong, Charles Mingus and Miles Davis all wrote fantastic autobiographies.
