How many slide positions on a trombone?

thanks in advance.

There are thereoetically 7 positions but there can be hundreds as they can be slightly altered to adjust the tuning and if you happen to have a trigger then they are all slightly sharpened.

The answer is 7.

Infinite.

It's completely dependent on what you are playing.

When you are first learning, you need to learn the basic positions for the notes you will be playing. Eventually you should be able to easily move to the standard 12 notes, but like any musical instrument, there is no end to what you can get out of it.

7 is the magic number

7 classical positions, but as the tuning mechanism is a slide, it comes down to the player, if you like to play quater tones there can be as many as 30, but that's more about the science of the instrument than the playing
