What about the Alamo?

I keep hearing people say "Remember the Alamo!" What does that mean?

The stand the Texans took against an overwhelming army of Mexico's Santa Ana was a turning point in the birth of the Republic of Texas. Even though it was a bloodbath, the Texans lost in a hail of gunfire, they were never going to give up. To the last dying man, they fought to win.
When you are up against overwhelming odds, "Remember the Alamo" is an often repeated motto, to never give up, never quit. Even if you know the odds are against you.
Even though the Texans lost at the Alamo it slowed down Santa Ana's army long enough for General Sam Houston to catch up with them along the banks of the San Jacinto River, in their effort to board ships to sail to the Gulf of Mexco, and back to Mexico.
Santa Ana surrendered after a very short battle and after siging a declaration, The Republic of Texas was established.
"Remember the Alamo!" And never give up.

Texas lost the battle and they don't talk about it very much!

If you are an American you should know. If not then the Alamo was a Catholic mission and the site of a very famous battle between the army of General Santa Ana, President of Mexico, and a small number of Texans with a small contingent from Tennessee led by David Crockett. I think it was about 239 men. They held off for several days and died to the last man. That time allowed Sam Houston to solidify his army and defeat Santa Ana at the battle of San Jacinto thus winning the war. Texas became a republic and later joined the United States.
