A fisherman found out about an island with a treasure on it, he knew that he could get it at anytime, however he waited 3 months to retrieve it. Why did he do this?

(Hint: Nothing to do with the water being frozen, many people think that.)

He was sick?
He need to wait for the island to show up because of the tides?
He needed to gather food for the trip to the island?
His boat was impounded?
He needed some money to get buy a shovel for digging the treasure?
He needed to go ask the IRS whether he needed to pay tax for finding treasure?
Because he just wanted to wait 3 months before going there???

Need more clue here...

needed to get a plane ticket

cos he was doing time in a prison

er it took him 3 months to get there?
