Riddle for you!?

The Mad Hatter is holding four cards, an ace of clubs, an ace of hearts, an ace of diamonds, and an ace of spades. Alice draws two of the cards. What is the probability that Alice will draw at least one red ace.

The answer can be broken down by summing the probabilities of all three outcomes that include at least one red ace.

Outcome #1 - Both cards are red aces. The first card drawn has a probability of 2/4, or 1/2. This leaves one red ace among the three remaining cards, and a probability of 1/3 for the second card. Total probability is the product of the two single-card probabilities since both must occur. 1/2 x 1/3 = 1/6.

Outcome #2 - First card is a red ace, second one is not. Following similar logic, the total probability is 1/2 * 2/3 = 2/6.

Outcome #3 - First card is not a red ace, second one is. 1/2 * 2/3=2/6.

The total probability for the problem is the sum of the individual outcome probabilities because any one of them satisfies the requirement of at least one red ace. 1/6 + 2/6 + 2/6 = 5/6.

So, good old Alice has better than an 83% chance of catching at least one red ace. My money is on her!!

1 in 4......theres 4 cards...one black ace one red ace....the possibility of pulling a red ace is one in 4 cards because there is only one red ace in 4 cards....so its one fourth..

Well 100% if the cards are facing her. Well how could Alice pick a red ace when the Mad Hatter has both of them??? Well it would have been 1/4 because there are 4 aces (heart, spade, clover, diamond). However it could be 1/54 since there are 54 cards in a deck (counting jokers). The Madd Hatter has 4 cards so I guess it would be 1/50. Good riddle! Star!
