What would be a good song to parodize? I write my own lyrics and film the video so please help.?Something like
A Million Miles from Michelle Branch...
Its been used in funny movies already...its a total chick song, and it got horribly overplayed... Britney: gimme gimme, though you wouldn't be the first or the last One of the keys to successful parody is SOME element of liking the song you're mocking! For instance, Weird Al's parody of "The Day the Music Died", using Star Wars characters from Ep. 1, was hilarious, but you could tell he LIKED the original song (he knew it inside and out). Contrast that with his parody of Michael Jackson's "Beat it" ("Eat it")...not so great. Funny, yes, but not scathingly satirical.
The first song that came to me was "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day, since it's a great song, IMO, AND was horribly overused (get one that's been in commercials, Blink 182 is used a LOT).
It's also good to get a song that's serious, since, if it's ALREADY a parody or comedy, YOUR song falls flat!
Think about your audience; is it for younger or older people, those into Country or Punk? If you know your audience and their unique style of humor, your song will go over better with that group of listeners.
Also, digging into the classics (Say, "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing", by Aerosmith or "Stairway to Heaven"), will make your song accessible to more people. I'd say use "Walk this Way", but I think Al already did that one! (?). Annnd you can never go wrong parodying the 80's "Hair bands'!
Good luck! |
