i am looking to make a playlist with songs that have stories behind them, for example depression, letting someone down, losing a friend, losing yourself, suicide, eating disorders, so on....and also i want them to be soothing like MArtina Mcbrides' "concrete angel" and Maria Mena's "just a little bit". i enjoy rock music and many have the right lyrics but im looking for things that are a bit softer something which i can relate to and cry to on my bad days. wow
i have alot of those songs.
my top ones are probably
Josh Groban-You Raise Me Up (beautiful song)
Natalie Grant-The Real Me
Zoegirl-Skin Deep
if you need anymore just message me =] "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles hide and seek by imogean heap. shy that way, by jason mraz
slice of heaven, by magnet chiodos. all the way. Check out the: Beatles, Muse, Coldplay, and U2
Those bands have nice meanings in almost all their lyrics.
Don't forget 'Wonderful Life' by Gwen Stefani Far away by Nickelback and Hotel California by the Eagles. I like WAITING FOR YOU by ELLIOT YAMIN. It's a nice love song. everything you ever wanted
by hawk nelson enigma- return to innocence...
nas- (hip hop--but excellent song---) i can
trik turner- friends and family that song angel by jewel - i think it is called angel - all i know it sure does make me cry everytime i hear it try carrie underwood.
or corinne bailey..
theyre good and i listen to them every bad day. Whiskey Lullabye by Brad Paisley
Bring on the rain by Jo Dee Messina Desperado
"Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You've been out riding fences
For so long now." What about... killing the earth for a "big shinny car", or a "buck"!!! wasted years by COLD Religion and politics. There haven't been hardly any anti lyrics that I've heard in recent music.
Read up on bush's censorship, executive order to not allow Presidential archives released anymore, FCC laxing laws to allow even more media to be owned by the few, only AP news for international and national state news coverage.... Treason, lies, withholding evidence...
You can put it on the internet to get heard and recognized like that new girl with "Bubbly(?)." Blue october- black orchid
Ani defranco- not a pretty girl Pappa Don't Preach
by Madonna Something You Forgot- Lil Wayne nice but sad song MCR's 'Black Parade' is a great album about a dying cancer patient. It's very 70's Queen influenced, but it's rock and frankly kicks ***. listen to your heart by roxette
"listen to your heart when she's calling for you"
"listen to your heart when he's calling for you" Best sad songs for me are Garth Brooks-The Dance, REM-Everybody Hurts. There's a Phil Collins song that goes something like "so you're leaving in the morning, on the early train..." Its about someone leaving and you not being able to go after them. I relate it to my sister losing custody of a boy she was trying to adopt, but I think it could be really sad for a number of reasons.
There's a Jewel song on her Pieces of you album that I think is called Adrian or a guy's name that begins with A. Its pretty bad also. Blue October's Hate Me isn't lite but a good depression song. zero- hawk nelson
its not over- secondhand serenade
slipped away- avril lavigne
elephant and the castle- houston calls
bury your head- saosin
voices- saosin
just like i remember- bleed the dream
all of these are great songs. Anything from Radiohead's album "OK COMPUTER." "Let Down" and "No Surprises" in particular sound like what you are looking for. Also, anything from the Smiths (particularly their s/t album or "The Queen is Dead") or Morrissey.
I noticed a few people who suggested the Beatles. You can't go wrong there, either. "A Day in The Life" from Sgt Pepper's... rocks! "Teddy Bear" by Red Sovine always makes me cry. I know it is country and I don't normally like country but for sad songs, they have the story lines for it.

Also, this one makes me cry because it reminds me of my grandparents who died about an hour apart from each other in different locations under different circumstances. They were always meant to be together.

EDIT: I hope you'll dance, is also a tear jerker. This was played at my husband's best friend's funeral. She fought cancer for 5 years longer than they told her she was going to live. She always lived life to the fullest and wanted others to do the same.

Do you ever feel like breaking down?
Do you ever feel out of place?
Like somehow you just don't belong
And no one understands you
Do you ever wanna run away?
Do you lock yourself in your room?
With the radio on turned up so loud
That no one hears you screaming
No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me
To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
Do you wanna be somebody else?
Are you sick of feeling so left out?
Are you desperate to find something more?
Before your life is over
Are you stuck inside a world you hate?
Are you sick of everyone around?
With their big fake smiles and stupid lies
While deep inside you're bleeding
No you don't know what it's like
When nothing feels all right
You don't know what it's like
To be like me
To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life
No one ever lied straight to your face
And no one ever stabbed you in the back
You might think I'm happy but I'm not gonna be okay
Everybody always gave you what you wanted
You never had to work it was always there
You don't know what it's like, what it's like
To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like (what it's like)
To be hurt
To feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No you don't know what it's like
