Are the BBC right to censor the words of Fairytale of New York?
It wasn`t censored when first released.

My daughter sang this in a (school) church service during Christmas 2006; I think they 'tidied up the lyrics' a bit, but even so... the Pogues.... Church.... !

It's crazy to censor it, the word in quesion was used very differently by the older generation in Eire, meaning something similar to 'rascal'.

I didn't know about this censor issue, need to get back to Eire and sort it out.

I'm gay and normally find that particualar word very offensive but that song is a classic and I gunuinely don't think it's meant in a homophobic way. It's just something to rhyme with maggot.

I personally love the song, it makes me feel so Christmassy.

I'm insulted by by the censorship , I weas insulted when Ronan replaced the line with "You're Tired and You're Haggard" !!

It's a guy and a girl having a heated argument and words are just words.

If any gays are insulted by it then they're looking for something to complain about and may as well start reading the Daily Mail. All the gay's I know think its a great song .. WITHOUT CENSORSHIP.
