Best magazine to start off at?

I was wondering that the best magazine would be to start off writing for? I would prefer to right for a celebtrity gossip magazine such as People or even a more serious publication such as Time. Suggestions?

It depends on what type of writing you want to do and what audience you want to target. It isn't so much about what's the best magazine to start off at, it's what best fits your wants and needs.

If you want to freelance write, come up with your ideas and see which publications would be perfect for your more developed ideas. Pitch them to those magazines, and like the poster above me said, don't forget to try out abroad. You can even write articles for places that don't speak English -- the publications will translate for you!
