As long as it's nonsexual. The 17 will turn 18 and it could lead to problems. Some states a 17 could be charged as an adult. Lets say something happens and the 14 year old's parents decides to press charges or the state can step in and press charges.

Here are the statutory rape laws listed by state. If you date and have sex, you don't even have to press charges...your parents or the courts can do that on your behalf even if you don't want them to.

The best way for you to get a GOOD answer on this is to know what your State law would be on AGE OF CONSENT.
For example, I'm from Missouri. So I'd look up Missouri Age of Consent Law. It's different for almost every state.
And you should remember, even if Your state law says you're of "AGE", it's really up to your parents on who you can date!

Depends on the state, we know about Geraldo Wilson's case. He was only 17 when he recieve consentual oral sex from a 15-year-old and the in the state of Georgia, him and his lawyers had to fight to make sure he didn't serve his original 10-year sentence. Personally I don't see a problem with it. A 2-3 year age difference from age 13-17 is not a big deal, if you ask me personally. Even at age 18, I don't see it out of line for that person to date a 16 or 17 year old.
