In "I am Legend", did Will Smith "choke out" his dog?

Spoiler alert.....if you haven't seen it don't read on.


After the attack by the infected dogs they go back to the lab. He give Sam a shot, then he notices all the symptoms. Sam lunges at him once and the camera pulls away for just a face shot of Will sitting against his lab cabinets obviously struggling with his dog...is he choking Sam out Old Yeller style?

If so, that must be the most gangster thing I've ever seen....hardcore! By the way I teared up during that part.

yes he had to choke him. His facial expressions made me cry so bad, specially since I had a german shepard that looked just like that one. Sniff...Saddest part of the movie. Awesome movie by the way.

One of the saddest parts in the movie, why did the dog have to die?

The reason I began to cry during that part is because I started remembering him and all the bonds that they shared, the connection they built their life around... Taking a bath, eating, sleeping together... Also I cried cause I owned a dog who had to be put down a few months back.
