Do you have a problem with black and white movies?

My boyfriend's friend does. I can think of many movies I loved in black and white, like "To Kill a Mockingbird," The old version of "The Postman Always Rings Twice, " "Mildred Pierce." I think it can actually give mood to a movie. Tell me what movies you liked in black and white and why. Will give a best answer.

Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein--the movie wouldn't have worked nearly as well in color. b&w gave the movie a great eerie feeling

Psycho--hard to beat the first slasher flick--you don't need to see the color red in the shower to scene to get positively freaked out listening to the blade slash away at the heroine. again, b&w gives it an unreal quality that makes it creepier.

Casablanca--When Ingrid Bergman looks into the camera, you know she's consumed by love.

Nosferatu--b&w here really highlight the difference between light and dark in some scenes and give real menace to the vampire.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? I really think b&w is essential here to set the mood of post-party drunken unreality that hits at 3 in the morning.

I've got to stop. I love b&w and could go on all day. Maybe your boyfriend's friend will get used to it one day.

I also liked "To Kill a Mockingbird". I actually haven't seen a whole lot of black and white movies, but I like a lot of tv shows from that time:

I Love Lucy
Leave it To Beaver
The Andy Griffith Show ;)

The black and white movie are the best. Classic acting. Amoungst my favourites is Citizen Kane.

No, I love back and white movies. I also love black and white pictures. I just think that they are so clear and sharp. Color seams to make things fuzzy sometimes. Plus I just like old movies and some of the old shows in black and white. Like I Love Lucy and Andy Griffith.

I love them because it forces you to pay attention to the story, without being overwhelmed and maybe distracted by the sometimes overdone color lighting effects. As a film student I've always wondered what it would be like if Hollywood made movies like Transformers, Alien or Little Miss Sunshine and just gradually introduced color (one object at a time, per scene) towards the end of the film, and then judge the impact it would have...

I like them, especially Marilyn Monroe's.....

Some of the greatest movies have been done in black and white.
"Citizen Cane"
"Casablanca"
About all the Film Noir movies.
"Lost Weekend"
"Gaslight"
"Sunset Boulevard"
To name a few.
The more recent:
"To Kill a Mockingbird"
"In Harms Way"
"From here to Eternity"
"Schindler's List"

Most people do not realize it is harder to film using black and white. The lighting has to be absolutely right to get a good picture.
If you don't to watch black and white flicks you will miss some of the greatest films ever made.
Check out:
"The Treasure of the Sierra Madre"
"The Maltese Falcon"
And this time of year:
"Babes in Toyland" AKA "The March of the Wooden Soldiers" a Laural and Hardy classic.
