This so called "Cloverfield" movie is driving me insane! There is, as of now, hardly any information on it! All we have are a few viral marketing websites and a trailer, and the movie is being released in a month!
Do you think the companies involved are keeping the project a little to "underwraps"? Do any of you have info on it? I think they're handling this brilliantly! We're not even certain that "Cloverfield" will be the final title.
I remember the ad campaign for "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". There were NO hints about this film! We couldn't hop on the Net and research everything. We saw people staring at the camera, eyes wide with wonder, the scene batched in bluish-white light. That was it! Well, "Cloverfield" footage is showing us a major bit like the Statue of Liberty's head landing on the streets of the city, and we hear the roaring. We know the creature is mammoth~gargantuan~perhaps beyond the scope of any other creature in this sort of film.
I'm hoping that it's H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu! Now, that would be a homegrown monster and something far beyond the attack of any other creature. I have seen art that is purported to be The Parasite and the creatures that accompany it, but I'm not certain if that's what we shall see.
I think it's the perfect approach to building up a "wanna see" frenzy! I'd dearly love to be able to go to a movie theater to see this because I doubt that it will be the same on TV.
I hope this doesn't overwhelm you, but this is:

Wikipedia gibes with most other sites' info:
J. J. Abrams (of "Lost" TV series fame) conceived of a new monster after he and his son visited a toy store in Japan. He explained, "We saw all these Godzilla toys, and I thought, we need our own monster, and not King Kong, King Kong's adorable. I wanted something that was just insane and intense." In February 2007, Paramount Pictures secretly greenlit Cloverfield, to be produced by J. J. Abrams, directed by Matt Reeves, and written by Drew Goddard. The project is under production by Abrams' company, Bad Robot Production.
Plot speculation
The sudden appearance of the untitled trailer for Cloverfield (as a trailer before "Transformers") fueled media speculation over the film's plot. USA Today reported the possibilities of the film being based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft, a live-action adaptation of Voltron, a new film about Godzilla, or a spin-off of the TV show Lost. The Star Ledger also reported the possibility of the film being based on Lovecraft lore or Godzilla. The Guardian also reported the possibility of a Lost spin-off, while Time Out reported that the film was about an alien called The Parasite. IGN also backed the possibility of the same premise, with "The Parasite" also being the working title for the film.

I've heard so many rumors about it, including the notion that it might be one of the following:
1) "Heroes" crossover with monster shown in comic book
2) "Lost" crossover
3) "Heroes"/"Lost" crossover in which the pulse released from the island unleashes the monster seen in the comic
4) a brand-new creature called The Parasite, capable of shapeshifting
5) Cthulhu or another being from H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos stories~~That one gets my vote!
6) another version of Godzilla
7) a gigantic robot such as Voltron
Honestly, "Cloverfield" has been in the rumor mill since July, when they showed the trailer. This might not even be the final title. "Slusho" is possibly the name of the (fake) company the young man in the video is going to work for in Japan. Members of the cast of "Heroes" posed with Slusho cups recently, and I think at least one of the cups showed up in an episode.
I'm not saying the creature is Cthulhu, but here are some images of what the creature could be if...:

Someone posted this link at a forum, and it's said that the smaller creatures transform human beings, as they are doing to the screaming woman behind the sheet:

Legit or not, it looks creepy and capable of roaring like that, knocking off the Statue of Liberty's head and collapsing skyscrapers. For now, it's speculation.
I found a reference to a game called "Rampage"; a person on that forum says that there is a level titled "Cloverfield".
Lots of people are pushing for The Parasite, but just as many are hoping for a Lovecraftian creature. They're alien to our world and vastly powerful. One of these gargantuan beings was imprisoned beneath the ocean floor, which is what I thought of when it showed the ocean and an explosion. |
