The movie gives the impression that a dog is eaten. Right before the little boy is eaten a teen is on the beach looking for his dog, Pippen I think was the name. But it isn't said for sure ever. So really you can't say that you are right for sure. I think you are though as it looks like they were playing fetch in the ocean.
