In "I Am Legend" does the dog die?

*SPOLIERS*

My pets are like my kids and I can't handle scenes in movies where pets get killed. I was bawling in "The Amityville Horror" when he killed the dog with the shovel.

So, that having been said, "I Am Legend" looks like an awesome movie, but I refuse to see it if the dog dies... For all those who have seen it, please let me know.

Yes the dog does die after robert finds out it is birthday and him and his dog are driving down the street. While he is driving he sees what looks like a person but is a manican that he set up outside of a movie store he goes to every morning. He has a fit and shoots it he doesn't know that wasn't a dark seeker. As he starts walking towards it he steps in a puddle and he is caught in a trap that the dark seekers copied one that he used on one of their own. When he is hung upside down and passes out until the next morning. He cuts himself down and gets a knife in his thigh and crawls back to his Suv and then looks at a hole in the building in front of him and the dark seekers set off infected hounds to kill both him and his dog but they get caught in sunlight and wait. While Robert crawls to the SUV and grabs a gun the sunlight goes away before he grabs the gun and the hounds attack his dog until he kills them and takes the dog back to his lab and tries giving the dog what he thinks might be the cure. So he holds the dog and sings too it and then he checks her eyes and teeth and finds it's too late and she become s infected and tries to bite him so he has to strangle it to death and burries it. But they do not show the dog when he is forced to kill it.

Oh not only does it die but Will Smith has to strangle it himself. You may want to pass on this one.

yes..the dog gets infected and will smith kills him....therefore i would suggest that if u cant watch d movies in which pets are killed...dont watch this movie

i am very sorry but the dog gets the disease and will smith has to kill him so he wont get infected... so yes he dies, i was crying my heart out when i saw it happen.

yes, but you don't actually "see" the dog die. its done in a manner that may help someone like yourself deal with it better.

It is a great movie but I advise you not to see it. My girlfriend is a bit like you and let's just say that we needed a box of Kleenex there badly.

Dont go see it...Enough said? It is a decent movie that is a little choppy and def lots of dead spots but yes the dog dies.....Sorry!!!

Yep, he (Sam) gets bitten by an infected dog and gets the virus, so Will Smith has to strangle his own dog. There were kids in the theater BAWLING during that scene, I felt bad for them =(

yes he had to strangle his dog because it got infected with the virus. it was the saddest thing i ever had to watch. it makes you realize how pets make good companions ... especially if you're the last human alive.

thanx everyone, i will not go and see this movie- although i really wanted too. i can't take it when the dog dies, they gave it away on HBO firstlook. i will wait for dvd and just leave the room.

I'm just like that too, I'm really sad when animals die in movies. But it's not gory or nasty or anything like being beaten with a shovel. Yes, he has to kill the dog himself, but I didn't even know that he strangled the dog until I read that answer. It just looks like he was holding her down. Actually, what happened was the infected dogs attacked her, and Will Smith's character Robert takes her home then gives her a shot of something then holds her and sings to her. Then she starts growling (because she's turning into an infected dog) and he just holds her so that she can't attack him. I thought the shot was the thing that put her to sleep. He did it because he knew if she lived she would turn into one of the infected dogs. It was for her own good. His reaction to her dying is much sadder then her dying, truthfully. Maybe I'm wrong, but I was worried about that same thing when i saw the preview, but I saw it anyways. And I'm glad I did, it was a great movie. Sorry if i gave away more then you wanted to know if you do see it.

As he starts to change into a zombie, will Smith has to strangle it to death, you don't see it though :)
