Japanes horror movies?

What Japanes horror movie have you seen, and what do you think of it.Are they better then american horror movies?

Takashi Miike is one of the best and most prolific directors working today - check out Audition, Ichi the Killer and Box (part of Three Extremes) and a Masters of Horror episode never shown in the States for it's 'disturbing' content called Imprint. As mentioned before, his One Missed Call is well worth a watch.
R-point is a rather nice Korean ghost story set during the Vietnam conflict - although I think the Brit flick Deathwatch is better. Oldboy is fantastic and disturbing on so many levels.
Shutter is a Thai movie that you should really seek out and watch - definitely the most effective creepiness I've seen for a long time.
Are they better than US horrors? Let's compare the most famous - Ringu vs The Ring. I was quite fortunate in that I saw Ringu a couple years before the remake came out and I have to say that Sadako was much creepier than the effects laden Samara. Hollywood has to learn that throwing dollars at a movie doesn't necessarily make it good

Japanese movies are definitely more horrifying... they use the thrilling effect...they dont splatter a lot of blood, but rather make it more intense and scare you on a psychological level... if you like japanese horror movies, you should also check out korean ones... they are great genre's too!!

Reincarnation. It was part of Horror Fest 06. It was technically a psychological horror film. I loved it. It was in its original Japanese language, so you have to read subtitles. DONT GET IT DUBBED. I though it was better than some American Horroro Movies, but it cant beat the American original horror films.

Asian Horror is by far the best Horror in the world. I have a large collection, (continues to grow) of Asian Horror. Japanese leads the way, but Korea is also very good. Honorable mention to Indonesia.

not the japanese Ring it was poo

I don't have a great frame of reference for Japanese horror films, but One Missed Call was incredible. There's an American remake coming out next month, and I'm hoping it's not butchered in the process

They're waaaaaay better then american horror movies. In fact, most american horror movies are remakes of japanese ones :)

I watched one called "Ichi the Killer" it was about this guy who was bullied at school, he would get a hard on then go kill people, it was really strange, funny and gory, u have to watch it to understand, i also liked "Akira", this was a popular anime film, very cool. American horror movies are better i think, but mostly because they are bigger budget, my fave U.S horror a the moment is "Plant Terror" by Robert Rodriguez. peace.

they are way better like this movie i saw called `one missed call'. it's sort like final destination but instead visions and roller coasters you've got phones and pictures and candy

no

i saw the japanese versions of the ring and the grudge and they were much more freakier than the american made ones. they just use scarier imagery and stuff and a freakier atmosphere

A tale of two sisters was brilliant, I hid behind a cushion

America can't make horror movies
