Can I take the kids to see The Golden Compass?

I'm the aunt of three kids, ages 6, 8 and 9, and am wondering if this film is too violent for them? I know it's rated PG-13 and have read a few reviews stating this rating is for animal cruelty? I'm not 'too' concerned with language, but I do not want to expose them to violent animal death, simulated or not, nor do I want them watching children being abused (which I also read in one review). I'm not concerned with the 鈥榬eligious鈥?aspects of the movie, so if someone's going to tell me not to take them because the film "promotes atheism鈥? save you're time. Also, I would really only like to hear from people who have or help raise children and have, of course, watched the movie, please. Thanks!

The supposed 'cruelty' toward animals is not a reason to go see the movie. In the world of 'The Golden Compass' they technically aren't animals. They are what you call daemons, your soul taking place outside your body in the shape of an animal. Although some animals (or daemons) die in the movie, when they die they turn into dust. There are a couple of scenes when the animals fight each other, which might be a little graphic for the 6 year old, depending on what movies they have seen. It is very fun for kids and I am sure they would enjoy it. But, there is a scary part when one kid has had their daemon killed and they are basically a zombie. That part is a little intense for a very young one. And, this group of people are holding kids hostage and they are all going to have their daemon killed. I really enjoyed it and the acting is terrific! It is definently worth seeing, but you can be the judge whether to take your nieces and nephews

I did take the kids to see the movie this afternoon. While the fighting scenes did not seem to bother them, some of the "what鈥檚 going to happen" scenes did, a little, and I believe the story was a bit beyond their grasp. So, I think kids a tad older may understand, thus enjoy, the story more. Report It

I'm gonna be honest. I think it'll be too much for them. A (very well done CGI) Polar Bear punches another Polar Bear's jaw off. There are also some scenes that might be considered frightening to children, such as the fight against the children and adults, etc.

Everything together, I think it's just too much for a six year old in my opinion, but you be the judge.

ok so it may be pg 13 but i took my kidsd to see it and they oved it the are the same age as you kids one is 8 and one is 6
