pLEASE HELP WITH THE TITLE- A FATHER IS AN UNEMPLOYED ALCOHOLIC. hIS WIFE IS ALWAYS PUTTING HIM DOWN IN FRONT OF THEIR DAUGHTER. oN cHRISTMAS EVE, THE DAD GOES OUT IN THE SNOW TO FIND A JOB, BUT HE NEVER COMES HOME.APPARENTLY HE DIED. THIS WAS IN BLACK AND WHITE.

There is a movie that sounds similar to what you describe except its not black and white, both the father and the son are alcoholics, the son Nick Nolte, eventually kills the father and sets his body on fire in the barn, the girlfriend is Sissy Spacek, I am sure Nick Nolte won an award for his performance the movie is called "Affliction".
