For Those that Have Watched "The Nineth Gate" with Johnny Depp?

Can anyone explain the ending of that movie to me. Was the woman in the movie actually the devil that lured him into the Gates...which I can only assume were the gates to Hell. Or was she sent by the Devil to persaude him to go into the Nineth Gate. I watched the movie twice and can't make out the ending. Was the Nineth Gate even the entrance to Hell?? It seemed like the girl was actually "good" so I am still confused. So, help out an old fool that can't figure out the end of this movie. Anyone???

"Whereas the figure of Balkan is easily identifiable as the millionaire seeking more, the role of Corso and his female 鈥渁ide鈥?鈥?Irene Adler 鈥?is more of an enigma. Towards the end, it also becomes clear that the man on a genuine quest is not Balkan, but Corso.

Unlike Balkan, Corso will enter the ninth gate. As such, she is the caretaker of the Ninth Gate. In the woodcut 鈥?the ninth woodcut that has been removed from all three copies 鈥? this is symbolized by her depicted as riding a dragon, a creature with several heads: the Whore of Babylon, mentioned in the Christian Bible as foreshadowing the entrance of the Antichrist, etc.

By entering through the Ninth Gate, what does this make of Corso? Is he the devil, without knowing it, the girl one of his minions, sent to guide him back to hell? She does possess supernatural power, but it is clear that she never dictates anything to Corso.

i love that movie but i couldn't really figure out the ending either and i've watched it tons of times.
i think the girl was sent by the devil to lure him into the gates and yeah im pretty sure they were the gates into hell.

WOW!!! I thought i was the only one with that question. I gather the Ninth Gate is the enterance to hell, and jonny depps was the chosen one to find it or something along those lines. Sorry i'm no help, but there you go.
