In movies when they say, "Ill wire you the money" what do they mean? |
because the recipient is usually in the middle of nowhere on the run or something. The term has been used for decades, long before computers and electronic banking (computer) transactions. Indeed, WESTERN UNION, the telegraph company, would accept deposits of cash to be withdrawn at the other end of the "wire," or message. You can look it up. It's parrt of our communications history. Did you hear this in an old movie? I don't think people even refer to it as "wiring" funds any more. I know I've heard it in some of the classic film I've seen in school or that my dad had me watch. It means that they will wire transfer the monies into a specific bank account. ill access your bank account and make a deposit, usually inderictly from a computer They'll send it to you by Western Union, Moneygram or through a transfer from a bank. When they send the money that way it can be there for the person to pick up in a matter of minutes at any place which has those things. A "wire transfer" is a banking term referring to an electronic funds transfer from one account to another, or from one bank to another. it used to mean send it Western Union electronic transaction/transfer I guess It is a lot like a Money Order you get at the post office but you don't have to mail it. You go to Western Union, pay them the money and tell them where to send it. They sent a Telegram to the Western Union office in the city where you want the money sent. With proper identification on the receiving end the person can get the money from Western Union. It still works to this day. "I'll wire you the money" was used to mean that the funds would be sent via Western Union. A poster who received a thumbs down for this shouldn't have. That line doesn't apply to computers because they didn't have them when many of those older films were made or in period films! Western Union has had this service for many, many, many decades. |
