I am Legend A question for serious movie trvia buffs?

Is the current movie I AM LEGEND based on a 1973 Charleton Heston movie called Omega Man?
Though Omega Man takes place in LA, the story line seems so much the same.
If so, I really don't mind and makes me want to see it even more, because when I was a kid Omega Man scared the wits out of me!
It would be fun to see a remake just so I can see find out if I'm still a scardy cat or not.

The book was published in 1954.
The movie, in my opinion, is Oscar worthy. Will Smith gave the best performance of his career and the way the film was shot out beats Omega man.

I Am Legend, The Omega Man, and The Last Man on Earth are all based on a novel from the fifties called "I Am Legend."

All of them are based on the novel "I Am Legend" written in the mid 50's.

It sure is. They are both based off a short story.
