Ghosts at hogwarts?

how come the...people harry potter's close with (i don't want to spoil it for some people. :D) don't just become ghosts at hogwarts? or is that not possible? how does that whole ghost thing work there?

i've read up to the sixth book, i'm starting seven soon.

when you die, you can choose whether you want to become a ghost or not. I remember somewhere in one of the other books, somebody said that You can only become a ghost if you're unhappy when you die.

...now one of my friends is saying you become a ghost if you're afraid to die.
I think it's probably a mixture of all three. If you're afraid to die, you will probably decide to become a ghost, and if you're sad when you die, you might also pick to become a ghost, to stay with a loved one or whatever.

You have to read all the books to get that. It talks about it in the seventh book.

it's a decision... that's how life is. you can't have everything how you want. take it as a life lesson...

maybe they have to die at hogwarts like moaning myrtle. Cedric doesnt count he died in the graveyard

You have 2 leave something behind. they don't throughly explain but i believe it is almost like a horcrux. You have to leave a part of u behind. But they did however explain the only people who were ghosts were afrais to go on after death/.

when someone at hogwars dies and is afraid of moving on they become ghosts.

the answer is at the end of the 5th book before the going home feast.

its the person who dies choice.
i think if they become ghosts they cat cross over or whatever..
im really not sure, i was a bit confused too.

but when sirius died (and people if you didnt know that psssh) thats what harry was saying, that he should come back. i think not everyone can, and they can choose.

Nearly headless nick said that only the people who chose to want to be ghosts, and he only did it because he was scared of death.
And he said he regreted it. So i think sirius and harry's friends who died would rather pass on. Cause they would be more happy then wandering a school.
Ghost-the imprint of a soul.

You have to choose to become a ghost and there is no going back after the fact and most just choose heavin or hell insted because you can't know where exactly your going.

dumbledore said people have a choice to stay one earth are to go into the after life i never thought about his close friends never did stay with him until now but i guess they have loved ones up there

isnt it in the one book that they can choose to come back as a ghost or not, for I remember with Sirius's death that harry wanted him to come back to life and the gryffindor ghost (nearly headless nick) said that being a ghost was a choose of the soul

In the book Order of the Phoenix Harry wonders the same thing and asks Nearly Headless Nick that very question when Sirius dies. Nick said that a person has to want to remain as a ghost because they can't let go of their life. They aren't ready to go on. He explains to Harry that Sirius wasn't that kind of person and even he himself regrets the "life" he has now as a ghost.

ghosts at hogwarts live miserable lives. although you can see nearly headless nick is pretty charismatic, he just stalks from room to room in the school. the bloody baron stalks from dungeon to dungeon.

if the people harry's close with becomes ghosts, they will lead the same miserable lives. with this, rowling wants them to pass onto the next life by not allowing them to return as ghosts. additionally, harry has already finished what he's set out to do at the end of the last book, so nothing is there to be accomplished further. there is no need for them to become ghosts. it also gives the reader the sense that not everything comes back once you lost them. life must go on :)

Well, you probably haven't read the 5th Harry Potter. It explains that you have to be working at Hogwarts (or something like that) to become a ghost. If you REALLY wanted to find out, it's in the second or third to last chapters in the 5th book (Harry Potter and the Order of Pheonix) .
