Star Wars' Legacy?

What do you think is the legacy SW left for other sci-fi movies that came afterwards?

There're been other successful sci fi movies since the original films, but I can't think of another "traditional' (as in- spaceships, aliens, futuristic setting etc) that had a similar impact that SW did.

There'd been plenty of sci fi films before SW, but SW set a new standard that was WAY high.

Your thoughts? (Darth should be all Over this one!) :)

Darth was gone XMas shopping with Mrs Darth all day yesterday Fonzie....LOL
Now I'm about to get all over it.
The Legacy of star Wars is huge and all encompassing.
In my humble opinion, The Star wars Saga has the greatest impact and legacy in all of film history.
Yea, that's right. I said it.
Star Wars set a standard that was impossibly high and never to be matched in film again
Any film cycle that can teach some of the greatest lessons Humanity could ever learn about
Politics & Power
Friends & Family
Love & Relationships
The Balance between Good & Evil
And still yet tell a rip roaring exciting story at the same time gets my vote
Deep yet entertaining is a very difficult balance to strike and Lucas does it brilliantly in The Star Wars saga

The Dark Lord Of The Sith Has Spoken

The prequels sucked!

I think the Alien Series (Alien ('79) Aliens ('86) Alien3 ('91) Alien Resurrection ('97) )Made a huge impact along with Star Wars. But Star Wars beats it by a mile 3/4.

I agree w/ you in that there will never be another sci- fi film that will have an impact on pop culture the way Star Wars had.....still has. The only other film I can watch, not with the same fellings mind you but I can enjoy just as much is Serenity / Firefly.

Star Wars set the bar so high that it's hard to imagine anything coming along that would instill the same kind of devotion that these movies have. It also is responsible for other Sci-fi movies to be so good in that Lucas and his team took special effects way beyond what anyone thought could happen.

The next time you watch any movie with massive amounts of CGI and other stuff take a look at the movie credits ... I'll bet about 95% of them have ILM, or Skywalker Sound some where in the mix.

Depends on the way that moviephiles look at it
- When I speak to 20-somethings about how amazing 1977-83, was, some of them Hate those, because the effects were so inferior - others appreciate them because of the relationship to the 1st 3 episodes. I still think that Metropolis and Things to Come are remakable movies, but obviously they are dated, depending on what you're looking for.
- I love the SW series and I still have hope that Lucas may buckle and do the last 3.
- I recently read an article on some of the things that CGI was Unable to do for the first Jurassic Park, but by the 3rd movie -- CGI could do ANYTHING you could think of. Since then, we've entered an era where our Imaginations need to catch-up to CGI.
