For those who have seen Sweeney Todd...?

My parents are alittle nervous about going with me and my sister. The rated R 'graphic gorey violence' thing sorta threw them off. But from what I hear of all he does is slicing throats and baking them into pies, is it really that unbearably bloody?

i know it`s not out till friday but some see it at festivals and stuff. as seen by all the reviews on imdb.

Yeah M S, you're completely off base

First of all, the stage version is not at all "in the same vein as Little Shop of Horrors" which was a comedy. The stage version of Sweeney is very dark and brutal with real blood.

From what I understand of the movie version, Tim Burton wanted to make the movie version even more gory to emphasize the impact of the actions that Sweeney and Lovett have taken. This is not always possible on stage because no matter how much blood you use, the audience is still 50 feet from the action so the true horror is lost. In the movies though, you can have close-ups and slow motion. Burton made the film especially bloody. The studio asked him at one point to take out some of the gore so that it would be PG-13 and he refused. This movie is rated R because of intense, in your face moments of graphic violence that are not toned down for the viewer.

So if your parents don't mind you watching people getting their throats cut open, sure it's no problem. But I promise you this, the blood will fly in "Sweeney Todd" and there will be a lot of it.

The new movie is not out till friday.

I haven't seen the movie but have seen the original Broadway-style play in 7th grade of middle school. And no it's not bloody...and I doubt the movie will be, it's much in the same genre as "The Little Shop of Horrors"...more of a psychological thriller than a "horror movie". Basically the guy (Sweeney Todd) rips out his razor and cuts throats at unsuspected times with sudden load sounds (screams and sirens) when this occurs rather than spurts of blood. Another comparison, I don't think it's likely any more gory than, say, the Pirates of The Carribean series (which isn't really gory at all).

Haven t seen it though ..
