Can you name an actor/actress who should have been a star but didnt quite get there?

After a promising start! Example - Omar Sharif was set to go after Lawrence of Arabia but really never made a decent film again.
Who comes to mind for you?

You must be joking about Omar Sharif! You didn't follow his career then, if you think that "Lawrence of Arabia" is the only standout. So, I have to strongly disagree with that.

Terry Kiser~"Weekend at Bernie's"
Everyone knew the actor's name for once, but he must not have been offered much or perhaps turned it down. For a while, the public was talking about the man who played a dead guy.

Steve Railsback
Following his role as Charles Manson in "Helter Skelter", he was supposed to be THE hot star. Instead, he did "The Stunt Man", a brilliant movie with Peter O'Toole, then slid into the more obscure path.

Jeff Fahey
In an interview, he said that his agent would keep telling him, "This is it! This is the one that's going to make you a star!" He heard that again in "The Lawnmower Man", but he didn't seem to get the roles that were expected, even with the attention that role brought him. His TV series was short-lived, too.

Margaux Hemingway~"Lipstick"
Sadly, the film wasn't the hit they hoped it would be though I don't think it's the terrible film so many critics claim. She plays a fashion model who is raped by bad guy Chris Sarandon but gets no sympathy and little belief, even from her younger sister. Especially unfortunate is that Margaux suggested that her younger sister, Mariel, be cast in that role. Well, Margaux's career went nowhere, and Mariel's skyrocketed. Some time later, Margaux would follow a family pattern that included her grandfather, Ernest Hemingway, by committing suicide. Mariel continues to act and is an activist in various issues.

Paul Le Mat~"American Graffiti"
Yes, he did several movies that garnered some attention: "Aloha Bobby & Rose", "Handle With Care" and "Melvin & Howard", but the guy who raced Bob Falfa (Harrison Ford) never achieved stardom though he continues to show up in various roles. He did reprise his "American Graffiti" role in "More American Graffiti", but that film generally is described as a bomb.

Tippi Hedren~"The Birds" and "Marnie"
The second film was not the success of the first, which wasn't as strong a showing at the box office as you might expect. Why didn't this fine actress catapult into full stardom? She explains that she became uncomfortable with Alfred Hitchcock's possessiveness of her as he prepared her for more roles. She chose not to work with him and, although other directors were asking for her, plans went awry; Hitchcock informed her that he would ruin her career~and did. She has spoken of this in various interviews, suggesting that she doesn't resent what he did; she's such a straightforward lady that there seems no reason to believe that she mourns her lost stardom.

always thought Gabriel Byrne could have had a higher profile, but he seems to have quite successful offscreen.
What about Linda Fiorentino after The Last Seduction, she will be 50 next year so her prospects in Hollywood must getting thin
