im in a popular rap group, we are known in our city. and we have a good studio 2 go 2 here but im moving and there arent any studios near so i figured i need 2 make my own home studio so i can still record songs so there isnt a hold on anything.
please name everything i need to get the same quality as i would in a studio. thanks. Get a computer based system, there are lots of them ProTools, Sonic Foundry etc. Make sure you buy quality flat response studio monitors (flat response means they have no eq curve, if you are trying to mix with regular home stereo speakers they color your mix so once you master or burn a cd to play it will sound messed up) Buy good mics. Alot of guys spend big bucks on a studio then buy cheap mics. Good mics are the first piece of the sound puzzle....don't skip. Buy good flat response studio headphones, same thing, if you are not getting a true uncluttered mix how can you master. Buy a good compressor. This stuff doesn't cost a fortune if you read reviews and do your homework before you buy. Happy mixin' Trying looking it up in the internet but they actually sell entire set ups for studios. Its not cheap but you can buy everything you need. If not go to a local guitar center and hope they can help. The guitar center near my house is great but ive heard of alot of others that suck. Try going to one thats in a populated area. I am sorry that I don't have a lot of specific advice on equipment for you. I have a friend who has a great home studio and has recorded himself and other people.
What I do suggest from experience is:
before you buy anything expensive look it up on Amazon or Yahoo where people who have the item can rate. Using this has saved me some big bucks on items that sound great, but aren't.
Good luck and have fun with this. There is so much cool stuff now. It makes it so much easier to record! |
