Well, I play guitar. I have an understanding of basic chords, barre chords and the penatonics, and I guess I can kind of form chords together into songs but, they always seem to dissappiont me. Recently I've been listening to Radiohead, and I don't even understand how they make some of the chords they're playing. How can I take it to the next level? The thing that will make you a better musician and song writer is to simply play with as may different people that you can. don't limit your self to one band, or one person. The more people you play with the more you will pick up from others. Music is a culmination of YOUR life experiences as it is with your interaction with the world. You take bits and pieces of all of your experiences and of all the different types of musicians you've played with. This will increase you reservoir of knowledge giving you more to choose from when you want to put together your own music. Don't base your chords on someone elses music. There are to many bands that sound the same. Be genuine and try to play what you feel. Let your soul make your music, if it feels right to you; then it is. Later on, once you found your rythm, you can always go back and make changes. |
