I'm just starting out. When I am kicking the high hat and I need to kick the bass...both legs seem to want to go at the same time instead of against each other. Any tips on how to separate the two lol? Slow down the rhythm and practice at a slower tempo.
One quick exercise would be to play quarter notes (down beats) on the hi-hat and play eight notes on the bas drum. Once you feel comfortable with that then take out the down beats on the bass drum so they are alternating. After you are comfortable with that, start playing around with the base drum rhythm like playing eigth notes on the bass except for 2 and 4. On 2 and 4 is where you would put the snare drum and now you have a rock beat.
It's hard to seperate your limbs when first starting out but like the other person said is correct. practice, practice, practice. It just takes time to get used to. I just started playing as well. practice....concentrate....practice....c... |
