What is a good keyboard for a beginner?

I am looking at spending around 拢80

so far the choice is between a yamaha psr 213 & a Casio
CTK230

which is better of the two and what others are good in this price range?

i currently play guitar but i want to learn some basic keys for composing music and just having fun playing.

Why is more keys better, just more octaves to play??
(i know little about keyboards)

If I am looking at the correct keyboards, I would probably pick the Yamaha. Simply for the fact that it is a 61 key compared to the Casio's 49 keys. The other features between the two are fairly similar. One thing that may be worth looking for is a midi port on the back side of the unit. You may find it useful in the future to interface the keyboard to your pc via midi interface. This would offer you many enhancements from sequencing software, virtual synths, and training programs. Keyboards with midi should be in your price range. Good luck.

Look on QVC they have great ones.

You could try going to a music shop for a demo. Or if you don't want to spend any money yet you could try posting a "wanted" add on the Yahoo group freecycle - we got a keyboard free this week! It's not tops, but my kids are having fun and if they want to learn for real then we'll shell out!

My granddaughter has a Casio, her parents bought it at Wal*Mart, & it's been great for her. I don't know anymore about it other than it's a Casio. I'd like one for myself as well. It makes learning how to play, easy. She also plays guitar, such as you, so being musically talented is a plus. Have fun!!!!!

I say Yamaha definetly. I've used Yamaha forever. It's great for a begginer and you don't need to buy a huge piano. They sell keyboards at stores like Target, Walmart and so on. I started with a beginner piano from Yamaha, now I'm great! I taught myself, so it was easy.

yamaha are good, ive got one and its easy to use and fun (:

Well... i also play guitar... and i have learned a little bit of keyboard.. surprisingly also for composing =] i currently have a Yamaha keyboard.. which is really good as a first keyboard and is easy to use. It is also of a really good quality.

So.. id reccommend that you buy the Yamaha keyboard.

Hope that helps! x

Well i actually own a yamaha and it is doing good for me. (not psr 213 though) personally i just like the brand. they have not done me wrong so far!
