Maybe it's Drama, Oratory, or some other opposing art form.
Maybe it's MATHEMATICS.
If music soothes the soul, maybe the opposite of music is whatever aggravates the soul.
Maybe it's some futuristic, scientific Anti-Music. ART? Silance? Or maybe like a random medly of sounds all mushed together in an extreemly non artistic way, just compleatly random and unrelated.... Jennifer Lopez. I would say silence, oddly enough. Music symbolizes the expressed height of emotion, vocalized. While silence symbolizes unexpressed emotions or lack of emotion, unvocalized. death.... This is certainly an interesting question, one which has my thinker going ;).
Now of course we (including myself) could go on with sarcastic or bias answers like "Rap", "Country", "Pop", etc. etc. However, that would accomplish very little outside of establishing each user's musical preference.
So...the opposite of music. Well...music, to me anyways, is anything that one listens to to evoke an emotion. Generally this is an emotion to make one's self feel better....even when you listen to a sad song during a bad time in your life, you choose to listen to it because it "relates" to you...a sense of understanding and emotional bond with the lyrics and sound of the track. It just feels good to evoke an emotion in our bodies, be it good or bad.
So the opposite would be the lack of emotional response, or something derived specifically to inflict emotional torment on one's self. Something which is incapable of making you feel better, through relation or otherwise.
The two things that would carry this effect would be silence (a lack of emotional response) or personal negative attacks. The latter being just some constant vomiting of derogatory words designed to make you feel worse about yourself. Such as a recording that would just say "you are useless!" over and over again....
Silence lacks the passion to evoke emotion, while derogatory vomit just prevents any form of relating or improving one's "mood" through understanding or uplifting lyricism.
To be uplifting, the lyrics need not be cheery and happy neither....They merely need to relate in such a fashion that make you go on with your day. I personally listen to alot of music with lyrics and sounds that are not particularly cheery, but they make me feel better all the same. The latest overplayed hit song by Fergie. I don't think it is quiet or silence because I think music can be have silent measures, pauses, even extended periods of silence. I think music could even be silent. Music can be so much of anything, everything. Just think of John Cage's composition meant to last 639 years.

Schopenhauer's meaning in saying that music could "exist even if there were no world at all" is that music does not deal in material referents. There are (generally speaking) no things in the material world against which a musical piece could be validated to render it coherent."
