I think I want to play bass?

I want to play bass so bad. I've been playing guitar for like a year and half now and it just seems boring to me, like I'm getting nowhere. But my friend has a bass and when I went to his house. I picked it up and it was amazing. I instantly fell in love with it and now I want to play it now. is this a good idea or should I stick to guitar.

One advantage to playing Bass is the ratio of bass players to guitar players. If you can play bass you can get work. If you are bored with guitar switching to bass can't hurt, in fact it'll give you a better overview of the music.

Some advice though would be first to NOT play the bass like a guitar. Second you can check out great bass players, James Jamerson, Duck Dunn, Paul McCartney are all foundation players that'll give you the fundamentals of groove and bass as melody instrument. Plus if you can adapt their styles you'll be able to play in virtually any style of music.

I played bass for over 25 years before I switched to guitar, when I stopped gigging. Guitar is superior if you want to pick up and accompany yourself or someone else but bass is a real blast to play and you'll be surprised how many people will tell you that they listen to the bass more than the guitar.

Good luck, oh and learn to play with your hand and ditch the picks.

why not both?? lots of people play both, just have fun.

Well, if you feel more comfortable playing it, then go for it. If you already know how to play guitar, you can play bass easily. It's just a choice you have to make.

i play the bass at my school and it alsome it the best

Why not branch out? Why not do both? Don't feel like you have to be limited to one instrument. Learn as many as you are interested in.

Play it. It's close to guitar so you could play both.

Play both. You become a better all-around musician that way.

try new things its always good to play many instraments. (i wish i had taken piano lessons when i was a kid) so buy a cheap used bass and start practicing and take lessons if it turns out you dont like it sell it or just play around sometimes for fun

guitar is better for me, u gon need a amplifier for tht bass cuz its so quiet

yea i agree w/ that other dude. y not play both. u probably will end up playing one more than the other but that's alright. as long as ur havin fun w/ it. that's wut its all about.

Play bass.

Do what makes you happy. Life is short.

So you think that six string guitar is boring? And, you want to switch to a four string bass?

Unless you plan on only playing Primus songs, I'm sure a few lessions can elevate your guitar playing to another level.

Sitar, mandolin, banjo would be more of a challenge from guitar.

But it like everyone else says, play whatever helps you get your groove on!! :-)

I think it's an excellent idea. I think the bass player should play guitar as well. By learning bass, you'll improve your guitar playing just by being aware of the bass register. Then you can better incorporate it into your music. I've played both bass and guitar for nearly 40 years.

Kabum

DUDE! i've played the bass for a while and i have really enjoyed it! JUST GO FOR IT! its fun to play! i absoloutely love to play bass!!!!! u'll have heaps of fun playing the bass

good idea if thats how it felt to you,,,,listen to some john entwistle, bill wyman, geddy lee, flea, billy sheehan stuff to get you goin.

Well I hate to sound technical so bass is another type of guitar. So really don't think of it is abandoning guitar , just.......trying something new.

Go for it.
