I am very much interested in "Alto" Sax. But Its pretty difficult to figure out on which one to buy. Can anyone provide me with good pointers. I find Cecillio to be good looking but some websites referred it to me as "Wall hanging". I want a good sax with good warranty. If some experts can give me clarity on how to buy Sax and which is the most recommended and cost effective brand - then i will go for it. I will be most thankful to you. I have found Glenn Edward series to be producing good ones, any pointers? If you are thinking of starting a saxophone, I would recommend not buying but renting from your local music store. The first reason I recommend renting is, what do you do if you don't like the instrument and don't want to continue, you then have to try to sell the instrument and you will take a loss on it. If you rent, you just stop renting and you are only out the rental money for it. The local music stores carry reputable, high quality brands that are much better than most anything you will find that you can afford on the internet. The stores also almost always have a rent-to-own policy so you can keep the saxophone if you decide you want to continue. There is no "best" or "most recommended and cost-effective" brand. The brands that are considered the "best" brands out there are (in no particular order):
Selmer
Yamaha
Cannonball
Yanigasawa
Keilwerth
P Mauriat
The other brands that stores may carry that are still high quality brands but are more geared towards students (though Selmer, Yamaha do make great student horns) are:
Jupiter
Conn
