What television show spawned the most spinoff's? And what were the best, worst and your favorite?

What television show spawned the most spinoff's? And what were the best, worst and your favorite?

This is one of those tough technical questions. "All in the Family" led to five shows: "Maude," "The Jeffersons," "Archie Bunker's Place," "Gloria" and the mostly-forgotten "704 Houser Street" (in which John Amos of "
Good Times" fame played the man who had bought the old Bunker house).

Technically, "Good Times" is a spinoff of "Maude," since the Florida Evans character never appeared on "AitF."

While "Happy Days" begat "Laverne & Shirley," "Joanie Loves Chachi" and even "Mork & Mindy" (Robin Williams' first appearance as Mork was on "Happy Days"), no other show comes close to the "All in the Family" record.

I think it was All in the Family. It's spinoffs included Archie Bunker's Place, Gloria, The Jeffersons, Maude, and I think at least one more. Of those shows I probably liked the Jeffersons most and Maude the least.

mrraraavis, I think it's probably "All in the Family," which spun off "Maude," "The Jeffersons," "Archie's Place," "Good Times," "Checking In," "Gloria," and a show called "ER" (but not the hit medical show).

I would think All in the Family - Maude, The Jeffersons, Archie Bunkers Place, Good Times

I'm not sure if that's all of them - And I didn't care for any of them.

Hmm...the original Star Trek gave us
Star Trek: Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise and an animated Star Trek, plus movies, including Star Trek:The Movie, Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock and The Voyage Home (there's one more in the works, I hear!)

Law and Order gave us Special Victims Unit, Deadline, Criminal Intent, Crime and Punishment, Conviction and Trial by Jury...of course, L&O shared some of their story lines with Homocide: Life On The Street (a story would begin on Law And Order, in the beginning of the week, and finish up on Homocide).

Happy Days (seemingly inspired by American Graffiti, was actually a spin-off of a short on Love, American Style) gave us Laverne and Shirley, Joanie Loves Chachi, Mork and Mindy and Out Of The Blue. There was a show called Blansky's Beauties (very short lived) which spun off of a one-time character in Happy Days.

All In The Family gave us Gloria, Maude (which spun off into Good Times), The Jeffersons (which spun off into Checking In and E.R.), 704 Hauser and Archie Bunker's Place.

-I guess All In The Family Wins for TV series, but Star Trek tops if you count the movies.

My favorite spinoff has to be Deep Space Nine, because of it's 'dual existance'. It was obviously a contemporary of Star Trek:Next Generation, but it also, for a long time, existed in the mind of a Black Science Fiction author in the nineteen-fifties. It did some exploration of race and class, but spent a lot of time on theology - which I thought was great for a prime-time Sci-Fi series.

Happy Days. It spawned the following:

Mork And Mindy
Laverne and Shirley
Joanie Loves Chachi
Blansky's Beauties
The Cunninghams

plus 'Out Of The Blue'(a spinoff also set in the future like 'Mork and Mindy'; it was also a spin-off of a Happy Days episode about an angel who has come to Earth for some reason). I've always remembered it because the angel told the Fonz that they were saving a spot in Heaven for him, and when someone asked about Richie, the angel said, 'Him? They're talking about him taking my place...'

Don't forget that 'Happy Days' is itself a spin-off of 'Love American Style'; it was shown in an episode called 'Love and the Happy Days'.

that;s easy, startrek. this might be before your time, but I was into a show called combat, it came out in the early 70's and the other was Rat patrol.
