Grumbleweeds?

Who remembers a programme called the grumbleweeds i remember my dad watching it when i was about 4 but cant remember what it was about

Yes, the Grumbleweeds was a show in the 70s and it was a programme about 5 guys larking around. They were a bit slapstick and played instruments and sang silly songs. Maurice was the name of one of them (he was very hairy!) Check out their website - http://www.thegrumbleweeds.co.uk/

I remember a radio comedy sketch show with the Grumbleweeds. It used to be on late at night.

I remember them singing songs & doing comedy sketches. there theme music went "Weeeeee are the Grumbleweeeeds!. "

They're still going.

They've got a new show with Cannon and Ball, in Blackpool.

The Grumbleweeds are a British comedy band and comedy troupe who were popular on radio and television in the 1980s.

The Grumbleweeds started in Leeds in 1962, formed by Robin Colvill and Graham Walker. They performed on the northern club circuit and pubs in Yorkshire, and occasionally abroad in Germany. Turning professional in 1967, and by now a five-piece with the addition of Maurice Lee and brothers Albert and Carl Sutcliffe, they appeared on "Opportunity Knocks" and "New Faces鈥?hosted by Max Bygraves. Although they didn't win, the exposure was sufficient to warrant a recording contract with Phillips, where they released an album of serious songs, In a Teknikolor Dreem, which was produced by Alan Hawkshaw and remains collectable today.

In 1973, the group secured further television exposure with a series The Coal Hole Club, shown on BBC One in the early evenings and aimed squarely at children. The show mixed the group's repertoire of impressions with fast-moving comedy and music. During this period the band sporadically continued to release singles and albums, which contained a mixture of serious songs and comedy sketches.

It was on radio, however, where the Grumbleweeds made their major breakthrough with the successful BBC Radio 2 series, "The Grumbleweeds Radio Show", from 1979 to 1988. Fifteen series of programmes were recorded, and it received the prestigious 鈥淏est Radio Show鈥?award from The Television and Radio Industries Awards in 1983. "The Grumbleweeds Radio Show" is also the title of a series of television programmes made between 1983 and 1988 for Granada Television which retained the fast-moving sketch format.

In late 1987, brothers Albert and Carl Sutcliffe decided to leave the group, and were augmented by side-musicians in the 1988 television programmes. By 1989, slimmed down to a three-piece, they secured a new BBC Radio 2 series, Someone And The Grumbleweeds, which ran for three years. Maurice Lee decided to leave the group in 1997, and was briefly replaced by Tony Joe.

The Grumbleweeds are now reduced to their two founder members Colvill and Walker, but remain a popular attraction on the cabaret circuit. They have continued performing in most aspects of entertainment, even appearing in television programmes including "Emmerdale", "Coronation Street" and

Yes, I remember them.
A group of comedians who used to have a show on a Saturday evening.
My Stepmum claimed she used to date one of The Grumbleweeds before they made it 'big'.
She may be telling the truth but then again everything she used to tell me I've learnt to take with a pinch of salt. lol.

god that makes me feel old u saying ur dad watched it lol it was comedy a bit like the goodies but the goodies were better lol

I used to love their radio show. It used to be on Radio 2 at 10pm one weeknight. My brother and I would go to bed (we were about 10/12) and listen on our little transistor radios. We could always hear each other howling with laughter in the other one's room.
I loved "Uncle Nasty" - you always knew when his sketch was starting because he would always say "watch it pal" and go on to make wonderful threats like picking up your teeth with a broken arm!

I remember the audience always shouted "Hello Baldy" at one of them, and that they were a bit slapstick, but not much else I'm afraid.

they did a comedy sketch show and sang on it too. they are still going on.

Hi there.
Comedy bands were big back then (The Black Abbots, The Grumbleweeds, The Barron Knights).
I had the misfortune to see them live and they are one of the worst three acts I have ever seen.
Cheers, Steve.
PS the very worst live act in the world ever was George Melly. Now he is dead they are trying to pass him off as charismatic or a great showman - he was neither, he was a useless fat fool with no presence and no talent. God, what a bad night THAT was...
