How do you feel about the word "retarded"?

nice to meet u purple...... have a great evening

It is still a medical diagnosis. You could say it was a "rude" word and call it something else, but people will eventually misuse the new word, too.

My last clinical site referred to it as, "MR" instead of metal retardation.

retarded....

it's hurtful and should be banned

its rude

good question- notice the root word "tarded", but that is not a word I have ever heard- so where does the "re" , as in doing some thing over- come into play?-- get back to me on that, I'll be waiting.

Well nowdays its used too losely. . .

bad

its not a swear word so its fine with me

i hate it when people use that term. it is so mean and RUDE
they are "special needs or challenged"

It is just a word, right?

as a statement its incomplete, needs to be reference to intelligence or better yet a specific intellagence

I think that people take too much offense to the word. It's like using the word "gay" Now I can't use it because it offends people. That is so gay...and retarded.

its a term of endearment

Bwah he he he...higg likes...

mentally challenged and misunderstood

its retarded.

I think it's a rude word. There other words you can use besides that one.

funny kinda

I really do not like the word, so I refrain from using it.

if a person is truely retarded it's an insult

When the cashier asks old ppl where they work, some of them say "I'm retarded!" instead of saying "I'm retired!"
It makes me mad. I think how they wouldn't like have a mental challenge.

I think it over used,

Sky wings have you ever pushed the RED FLAG button, because you felt it wasn't how you would have worded THE question! Even though it's not your question! If you don't like a question you move on! unless it is TRULY hurting someone!!

I PREFER MENTALLY CHALLENGED.

i have a severely disabled/handicapped niece, she's only 7 yrs old. her entire life is a painful struggle. i hate it when people use that word in hurtful or even joking ways.

I like to use it to describe myself!

I hate it. I think it's insulting and rude.
No one should ever use that word.

I think it is an awful, nasty and hurtful word.People who use this are un-educated and probably will be social outcasts in the end.The word should be banned and made a crime to use it.

I find it annoying when people use it as a slang term.. It's just offensive. And so many people do it at my high school.

it's an ugly word. disabled ---> now that's appropriate.

NOT A WORD ANY MORE AS OF 2006 WE NOW HAVE MENTAL DISABILITIES.

RETARDED WAS THE WORST WORD ONE COULD USE TO DESCRIBE RETARDATION
