Is potato pronounced po-tay-toe or po-tah-toe?

Is potato pronounced po-tay-toe or po-tah-toe?

Both are correct. The first pronunciation is the American English accent, while the second one is British English accent (Anglo-Saxon)

Po-tay-toe

The first one.

po-tay-toe

po-tay-toe,silly bob.

Stop smiling at me like that,it's scaring me.

Here we call em' taters.

LOL

yes.

i think its po-tay-toe.

Po-tay-toe

Or I like to say YUM!

"pot-ay-toe"

po-tay-toe

Let's call the whole thing off.

It rhymes with "tomato" LOL!!!!

well , it sure aint po-tah-toe - unless your drunk .....

Quayle

It depends...

In England, we call it po-tay-toe, but in other accents (like America) they may say it differently.

You say po-tah-toe and I say po-tay-toe...

It's like that song :D

po-tay-toe..........thats the way i pronouns it....

Lets call the whole thing off.

po路ta路to po-tay-to

NOUN:
pl. po路ta路toes
A South American plant (Solanum tuberosum) widely cultivated for its starchy edible tubers.
A tuber of this plant.
A sweet potato. See Regional Note at possum.

ah, the old adage. you say "potayto, I say potahto".

according to that, say it however you like. Just so everyone on here knows, though, "potato" is NOT spelled with an "e". Spelling seems to be a chronic problem on this site. but with everyone being so sure of how the word is pronounced, they couldn't even spell it correctly. what a shame.

Hey, Smilin' Bob, both answers are correct! It all depends on where your from and who planted that dialect into your cranium. If you feel weird using either pronunciation - forget it. "Spud" is a great third choice. Actually, Bob, potatoes are starch and when you eat them they turn into sugar, and over the next forty years they're going to break down your organs.
Have a sweet potato instead. Then you can call them gams...er, I mean yams.

It is universally pronounced po-tay-toe. Tomato is pronounced to-mah-toe in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore but pronounced to-may-toe in the USA and Canada.

po-tay-toe
