What's a good way to punish a kid?

All this talk about the dad selling the guitar hero 3 made me think of something I saw when I was like 16.

I was sitting at our towns local punishment light and saw this kid standing on the corner across from my car with his dad. He had a sign that said "Honk if you think I should have kept my hands to myself" All the cars that passed by honked at him.

It made me laugh and I thought that was a clever way of punishment. I bet he kept his hands to himself forever.

a punishment light is a stoplight that takes forever to turn from red to green.

and angry white boy- yes I am, but only mildly.

I love the honking idea.
I would never sell my kids' Christmas gifts. That was just cruel.

I would rather teach them than punish them. How about a little charity work for Christmas!!!

i think thats one of the best ways, hittin ga kid or yelling at them isnt gonna get you anywhere but taking things that they cherish will!!

give him/her candy, toys, money

ask why the child acted the way they did and then if old enough to write ,list the reasons why they should not have acted that way 10 times (if unable to write then say them 10 times)

Thats a good punishment. I think this one is great, one time there was a lady that made her daughter hold a sign that said "I don't do my homework and I act up in school, so my parents are preparing me for my future. Will work for food." There are updates on it and I guess it worked. Her daughter is doing better in school.

my daughter was horrid in school soo in the 6th grade i made her wear orange sweats to school for a week both top and bottoms !!! BOY did her behavior change after that ! i think if you take away something so valuable to them it makes a difference

against the law, against human rights, outrage to human decency. anyone who would agree even vaguely with that deserves to have their children forcibly removed from them. And if that boy had any sense he would smack his dad in the mouth, I know I would if I were him.

"The punishment must fit the crime" is a good maxim. The Bible also says that punishment (though necessary) must not be excessive. Twice, as a father and grandfather, I have found that a slapped bottom was effective in preventing a repetition of the "crime", and that must always be the motive.

dad should have been arrested for such act i say make him do something he hates are go some where he really prefers not to go like a field trip of life the jail house would be good place to start TO SHOW HIM WHERE ACTS SUCH AS HIS WILL END HIM LATER

The kid sure learnt something!

But embarassing him in public might not be the best.
Mental and physical torture is bad.
Perhaps telling him what he has done wrong and why it's wrong is the best. Make him think.

I feel that random beatings and waving the gun around is a nice proactive measure.

Ive seen the sign thing too ! Some kids was wearing a neon pink poster board that said " This is my punishment for disrepecting my mom!"

that one is OK , but selling a kids toy is kinda jacked up . My mom did that crap , but she usually needed the money too, so I honestly thought she would be looking for any reason I gave her to sell my stuff when she was broke.

Maybe the case is diferent for this kids guitar , I hope so.

that's a good way or you can make them write what they have done 100 times,make them do wall sits ,that's funny to watch,make them stand in the corner,i like the one you was talking about because it not only teaches them not to do what they have done and they won't do it because now every one knows and that's embarrassing its kinda mean but not really

There is nothing wrong with a good old all American swat on the rear end. Now before all of you wussy weak t#ts out there jump all over me, I mean a swat on the butt. This in no way means a fist in the face, bruises or broken bones. Since corporal punishment is now considered taboo and even outlawed in certain places, kids have become terrors. I knew when I was growing up that my parents would whack me on the butt if I got out of line which I rarely did!!! Kids get away with all sorts of crap now because they know that parents have pretty much been deemed powerless by these new leftist laws out there. What the bloody hell is a "timeout" anyway. That is a sports term.
