Have you ever not wanted to buy your kids stuff for Christmas because they already have too much?

My children are the only grandkids and great grandkids on one side of the family. they get too much crap at christmas and at birthdays. The house is too cluttered. I dont want to buy too much of anything at all. They only need new socks and maybe a pair of pants for school.

this question hits a special spot for me, my wife and I were discussing this exact thing last night. My kids are adults, I have 3 grand kids and the little ones have WAY too much crap. every kind of thing you can imagine from video games to 4 wheelers. my sons do very well and don't need anything either.

I'm not buying any of them anything this year, screw it..... not that I don't love them, I do , but everytime I buy them something it just ends up in the piles of crap they already have... it means nothing to them.

My wife and I planned our next cruise and that's our present to each other. Christmas seems so much nicer when you don't have to shop.

Yeah i've definitely felt that way ( i don't have kids, but i have a spoiled little sister) ...it seems like she keeps getting all this crap that she doesn't need, and shes just appreciating things less and less. When I have kids they will get two or three things they REALLY want at christmas and thats all. They should be happy with that and in turn they will grow up to be better people for it.

Make them cookies, my son has every thing too. All he will be getting is clothes & money.

YUP...i seriously have no more room for it, and little man doesn't want to get rid of anything.
he could use more clothes, he's growing like a weed....

i feel you... my boys are the only grandkids on my side and my parents buy them everything they want. my 4 year old already has 3 of those expensive motorized cars. and this year my dad bought him a real 4 wheeler. my parents are FAR from rich, but they always manage to save up and buy them tons of stuff for christmas. my 1 year old gets alot too, but w/him being so young, it hasn't started yet for him. merry christmas!!!!

No. They really don't get a lot throught the year either. I like to splurge a little at Christmas time if funds will allow it.

Have you been eavesdropping?! Seriously my husband and I were just talking about this and we've been very very careful this year for buying presents for our kids. Last year, I was so happy to be able to buy this $100 my little pony castle for my daughter which she was asking for--this entire year it was touched less than 6x. I've made smart choices for shopping which we have to do being on the one income and a lot less indulgance on the kids. I think they'll be happy but i feel guilty about it.

I don't have kids but I feel exactly the same about the people I know who do have kids.
You can probably take half of the toys from last year and repackage them. The kid would never know!

yes, this year. I just moved in August/September into a house of my own. For months before the move, I spent countless hours purging our familys belongings, and have our clutter under control. I dread all the abundance of "crap" coming back into our house again.

Well, we give them a few toys but then we wrap things that they need throughout the year like socks, toothbrushes, crayons, markers, notepads, shoes, etc. It just makes it look like there are lots of presents and half of the excitement is opening presents!

A friend of mine makes her churlin's donate one of their older toys for each new toy they get.

I HEAR ya!!! AMEN TO THAT!!! I only wish I could only buy her stuff she actually needed!! Maybe we should do that & when they complain we'll tell them that because they have so much stuff & they don't keep their rooms clean that's all Santa left this year!! Maybe they'll get the hint!! LOL

i agree this year my kids will get presents of what they need and 1 each of something they might like
