here me out for a sec!! i've got to produce a seminar in college! an iv chosen to do it on the music industry today. the basis of it will be basically why there are so many unsigned music artists strugglin to make it in the industry when there are so many manufactured groups that are makin it big off other peoples songs girls aloud for eg! why?????????? would appreciate ur opinions and any other type of help you cud offer me......thank youuuuuuuuuuuuu!!! x In the 70s during an episode of the talent show "New Faces" the late great Mickey Most ("pop impressario and producer") was asked "If you could sign anybody to your label who would it be?" His answer "Max Bygraves, because he sells a lot of records." So it's quantity not quality and appeal to the lowest common denominator. The media doesn't help. On TV you have X-Factor and Pop Idol poo pushing 2nd and 3rd rate acts which are in your face every week. Versus that you have a single music newspaper (NME) that tells you how good the ArcticStrokesColdLilyWinehouseMonkeys are but neglect the up and coming talent. The C4 unsigned bands show is a small chink of daylight in anotherwise darkened room of corporate generated dross.
