How do you feel about the current state of r and b?

are lyrics what terhy used to be
do u feel like stupid songs are becoming hits like bed and put a little umph in it
what happened to the days of good songwriting and singing

I have to agree with your assessment; R&B isn't what it used to be. I mean the Chi-lites, Stylitics, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Kool & the Gang, Heatwave, Earth, Wind, & Fire, Otis Redding, Joe Tex, James Brown, and man the list can go on and on.

For one thing, they actually played instruments and didn't borrow sampling from other's songs and the songs had meaning, more so than today's music.

Though I did like Jodeci when they came out and when they eventually became K-Ci and Jojo, I also like this group called Christion, but I only saw one cd they put out. Brian Knight, and Eric Benet to name a few, but it is a few.

Hopefully the new ones will be influenced by them and put something worthwhile. I do like Van Hunt - and Tone, Tony, Toni's last cd was a nice throw back.

I think music in general has chage significantly. The music I grew up with in the 80's and 90's to me are some of the best years of R&B ...I miss those years....

There are very few TRUE R&B artists today. If you grew up listening to the music originally labled as such, during the fifties, sixties, and seventies, you would understand what I mean....

Singing & songwriting has changed dramatically. No one sings songs that have meaning anymore. If they think it sounds good, then they put it out. There aren't many good artists left in the industry and it's really sad to see. I wish there were more Stevie's & Luther's (hell even Mario) instead of people just crying over tracks. I'm really disappointed with R&B right now. I'm hoping someone will come along & change things, but I don't see it.

I have loved R&B all my life. Lately it needs more meaningful lyrics and sound. Today's generation calls it Neo-Soul. A critically acclaimed singer came out a couple of years ago. Her name is LEELA JAMES. She brought back that true sound of R&B she is very SOULFUL. HER voice has soul and gospel all in one. Her CD is called A Change is going to Come. One of her songs on the cd is called Music this song she asks where did the music go, we don't sing anymore? She gives honorable mentions to Aretha F. Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye close to the end of the song she says where is your SOUL at? I love this cd she has a lot of great songs on it. I love I Know I've Been Changed and her cover of Sam Cooke to name a few. I've seen her in concert 3 times she is a very passionate performer. Try her if you never heard of her. That song BED is absolute garbage, same old repetitive lyrics, what did I say lyrics? bed, bed, bed.
