Why not AM radio?

Why is it that only FM radio and not AM radio is used on current digital Mp3 players and some cell phones.

Uh people use mp3 players and cell phones for music..fm plays music.. that and AM uses a different way to broadcast music and talk than FM in a simple explanation... it's easier to put that equipment and build a antenna in the headphones than a ferrite antenna into the phone making it bulkier...

Plus other than talk radio and the few last remaining music stations on AM (which I try to seek out) it's not a very listened to mode than it was 30 years ago

there are two devices that do have AM radio built in: KA1121 and the Pogo. but not for cell phones, due mainly to potential interference from the circuitry in the phone. also demand is low. but, if you have a smart phone with internet, perhpas you can stream an am's webstream. also, with digital radio coming along, it may be possible for these devices to consider including AM again, but not too sure about that.

AM radio is not as popular as FM radio. Companies are not going to waste lots of money on AM for devices when the majority of people who use the products do not listen to AM. Truth be told most AM listeners are of the older generation, the generation that can't even function the high tech devices out today. I am young but will listen to AM talk radio often but majority of the time I listen to FM talk radio because its more dated. Besides would you really want to hear the poor quality sound of AM radio on your cellphone?

Even FM radio will eventually fall to the wayside. The demand for satellite radio is rising. I jumped on that bandwagon months ago, and it has not let me down. I paid a lot for my equipment, though. I wish I had known about www.SatelliteSweeps.com before I purchased my satellite radio.
