How exactly did video KILL the radio star? |
How exactly did video KILL the radio star? I always interpreted it this way because of the saying "You've got a face for Radio" meaning that the person wasn't exactly 'good looking', so the radio star who everyone loves for his/her voice is killed because suddenly everyone can see their not so pretty face on video and stops liking them as much. I believe the expression refers to the fact that you don't find radio actors, or celebrities anymore. Before TV or motion pictures ( "movies" ) There were radio entertainment programs with voice actors much as there are movie ot tv actors today. Beauty obliterated substance, hahahahaha! Kidding, kinda. I take radio right now and I had to write about this as well ^_^". David Sarnoff (the head of RCA at the time) Released FM for TV and not for Radio so at the time all there was only AM radio. Now AM has many faults such as static and it's not picked up easily. Anyway this was a new concept being able to see the speakers instead of just imagining what it looked like, you could see it. So then the radio listeners switched to TV and then shows went to TV and not on radio. So then Radio talent ended up out of work because of all the TV there was. I got an A on this paper by the way! It comes from the start of MTV and later VH-1 completely overshadowing radio jocks with the newest "thing." VIDEOS. You had to have lived through it to understand how new and exciting this was. |
