For Hip Hop lovers?

How do you feel about other genres conforming to hip hop beats to move with the crowd. well, i guess, first off, the pop sound HAS transformed to hiphop i.e. Nelly Furtado, Britney Spears, and some rock folks are getting into it like Fall Out Boy and Duran Duran. Do you think this conformity is destructive? Have some genres just completely abandoned their sound to grab the attention of the mass audience of listeners? I think it's alright, if the artist can fit it and make it hot, otherwise don't.

Most artist want to have the biggest audience ever, whither its by combining music with somebody else, an old school beat they use, or simply have a mix of other genres in their music.

remember when Nelly did that song with Tim, well it was all over the country music stations as well as the hip hop stations. just like Britney Spears music now its all over the hip hop and pop stations. i dont think they are abandoning their own sounds i think more of them trying to have a bigger audience.

I also believe that the producer of the music has a lot to do with it too, of course.

Like One republic, their new song Apologize, well it wasnt a big hit before Timbalan added his flavor to it.
jay-z producing some rock music, of course he is gonna add some hip hop sounds to it.

Most artist will do whatever they can to their music as long as they are hooked up with a great well known producer.

Well, considering hip-hop started originally by sampling beats from popular rock, disco and funk albums of the time, I don't really see anything wrong with it. I don't even know if you could classify one sound as a "hip hop beat". Everything involves re-invention. Don't worry about the labels. Music is Music.

Yea that is true... the former pop sound is now the hip hop influence we hear in other genres today outside of it..I love it tho..groups like Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, etc that use hip hop influences... I like it as long as its saying something to me! I love it if its speaking truth as well!

Not a hip hop lover.. But I don't see anything wrong with it as long as it's not overdone. I don't quite see it as "destructive" yet.. "pop sound" is really a vague category, so I don't think just because most pop artists extend their sound to hip hop means they abandoned the sound they initially played to. It just becomes part of their repertoire. But I do have to agree, not every artist can do well with hip-hop. But don't worry, people will let them know, if they mess hip hop up.

I think it is fine as long as it is genuine and isn't degrading. Some of the before mentioned bands' songs are really good and it's a great thing when everybody can make money and perform well at an art. I am compelled to ask why it would be a problem or destructive when hip hop also conforms to lets say pop,country, or alternative i.e. Nelly, Ja Rule, Lupe Fiasco, and even 50 to name a few. It's okay, people are going to spend their money on what they like regardless, me included. Hip hop influences EVERYONE so we had to know these days would come.
